While in Shetland we have chosen to use self-catering homes; this gives us the freedom to eat in or eat out, the luxury of spreading out in common rooms and enjoying the beauty of the Shetland Islands. We have several lovely homes that we will be staying in. Some of us may be sharing a room, but everyone will have their own bed. Most of us will be sharing bathrooms but we will have common rooms to relax in and kitchens to prepare our meals in (if we so choose).
We offer a limited number of private rooms with shared bath at an additional cost. These are very limited; we will be assigning these rooms on a "first request" basis. If you decide you'd like a private room while in Shetland please understand that total tour enrollment will impact whether a private room will be available and, therefore, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the requested single supplement at the time of enrollment.

Most of the homes are within easy walking distance of downtown, the ocean, and many of the Wool Week activities, but some homes are a short drive away. Due to this, we will give registration preference for those homes to those who will be renting cars. Many Wool Week events take place in venues throughout the islands and transportation is not always offered by Wool Week; this is another good reason to rent a car. However, there is public transportation (buses) and taxis are readily available if you prefer to not rent your own car.
FOOD
While on the mainland in Scotland, breakfasts will be available at the hotels and the cost is included in the tour-adventure price; breakfasts will be available on the ferry, also. While in the Shetland, we will stock the kitchens at each of the locations with the basic necessities to make a nice continental breakfast. The cost of all of this is included in the tour-adventure price.
There are two large grocery stores in Lerwick as well as other food shops if you would like to supplement the breakfast food supplied or prepare some of your own meals at "home". Having kitchens available to us, allows us to do that and still eat very well. However, the food scene in Shetland is vibrant with lots of delightful restaurants (we are happy to provide recommendations -- just ask!) so you may want to include some fun nights out -- again, our tour-adventure allows you the flexibility to do it all!
